This is a very basic suggestibility test that works as an induction and as a way to tell how easily someone will respond to your words.
A common variation is to wrap string around the fingers, pulling them together.
While talking, show or help them what to do, physically.
Clasp your hands together, fingers interlocking together and hold your hands in front of you.
Alright, now stretch only your index fingers up, keeping them as far apart as possible.
This one is more physical than most of the others. Holding your fingers apart costs effort and most people get tired very quickly. And, of course, the more you relax, the more they creep together. Which works as a nice indication of "you are relaxing", which makes the effect stronger.
