List of Tropes

A non-comprehensive list of the most common tropes (a significant or recurrent theme; a motif). These are the ones most often seen in pop-culture/movies, etc.

Actions

• Make the person repeat their words.
• Transforming emotions - fear into lust
• Amnesia
• Forced Behavior like an animal (chicken, pig, cow, dog, etc.)

Phrases

• Hypnosis = Mind control - Your mind is under my control
• "With the snap of my fingers..."
• "Completely unaware", "happy to follow along"
• "You are getting very sleepy"
• “The power of hypnosis” - Or just the word itself.

Eyes of hypnotist

• Glowing, pulsing, changing color.
• Kaa-eyes.

Eyes of subject

• Fixated, glazed over, spirally
• Swinging pocket watch / crystal.
• Following gaze (moving eyes)
• "Look deep into my eyes"
• Notice something strange... have to look deeper.

Body

• Limp, helpless - Placed in pose?
• Swinging side-to-side
• Robotic voice - automatic replies without emotion.
• Rigid posture - focused.

Other

• Mind-control device(s) / Drugs
• Light patterns / flickering candles.
• Spirals/visuals.

Styles

• Old fashioned - Posters, cloaks, fancy, Little Britain, etc.
• Spy movie - Sleeper cell, Manchurian candidate
• Vampires - Capturing their prey.
• Jedi mind trick
• Villain - Captures/mind-controlled by the villain.
• Snakes / Kaa-eyes
